River Access Update

River Update

Following the recent rainfall, it has been encouraging to see anglers back on the river after a prolonged period of drought and low water conditions.

A number of members have highlighted the extent of bank overgrowth along some stretches of the river. The club is aware of the issue and appreciates the frustration this can cause. The situation is exacerbated year on year by the significant growth of invasive species such as Himalayan balsam.

The prolonged dry spell has also meant there has been very little angling activity on the river for much of the summer. In normal circumstances, regular angler footfall helps keep access routes open and prevents vegetation from encroaching. With few anglers on the river through July and much of August, vegetation has been able to grow unchecked in many areas.

Clearance works require the agreement and cooperation of the relevant landowners, and maintaining these good relationships is essential to preserving access for anglers. The club will continue to work with landowners and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement where possible.

We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding and thank members for their continued support of the fishery.
