Roe Smolt Trap – Update for Members

Members are advised that efforts to remove the Smolt Trap from the river at the Counter, operated by the Loughs Agency, have been ongoing in recent days.

The drum has now been locked and raised, ensuring it poses no risk to migrating smolts.

Removal dates had been scheduled; however, consistently high river levels have prevented safe access and recovery of the trap. This reflects standard safety considerations, as elevated flows can present risks to both personnel and equipment.

The Loughs Agency team continues to monitor river conditions closely and is hopeful that the forecasted improvement in weather over the weekend will provide a suitable window for removal early next week.

Members can be assured that the trap will be removed at the earliest opportunity once water levels permit safe working conditions.
