Loughs Agency has announced that mandatory catch and release measures will be introduced on the River Roe from 00:00 on Monday 21 September 2026 for the remainder of the 2026 season.

The decision follows a review of 2026 salmon monitoring data, including fish counter information. Loughs Agency has advised that it is not satisfied that the required management targets for Atlantic salmon have been met and has therefore implemented catch and release measures as a precautionary conservation measure.

Angling for salmon may continue under catch and release regulations. Members are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new requirements and follow best practice catch and release guidance.
